Summary

This course aims to equip all learners with the sufficient skills and knowledge to start out in a successful career within the Health and Social care industry.


Synopsis

A career working in Health and Social care is extremely rewarding as it covers a diverse range of different job roles. It covers everything from Care Worker, Activities worker, housekeeping assistant, support workers, personal assistants and more. There is a growing demand in Suffolk for Health care workers, the course will provide you with the sufficient skills and knowledge to provide high standards of person-centred care for adults who access these services. Upon successful completion of the course, it will provide learners with a pathway to apply for employment, an apprenticeship or to study at a higher level.

  • Course duration is two days a week in the classroom for 10 weeks, additional 1-1 tutorials on Teams can be arranged to provide tutorials and support as needed with the course tutor.
  • The course consists of nine modules, which will be delivered using a range of presentation styles and fun activities in the sessions for learners to engage in. The assessment for the course will consist of an e-portfolio, which you will be required to successfully complete by the end of the course.

Outcomes

Through using a range of activities, research tasks and practical work you will be able to:

  • Describe the different types of service provision and roles within Health and Social Care
  • Explain the importance of person-centred support in health, social care and young people’s settings
  • Explore different types of communication for Adults, Children and Young people in Health and Social care
  • Identify how infections spread and the different ways to prevent and control infections
  • Develop time management skills
  • Consider why it is important to work as a member of a team and to work in partnership with external agencies to ensure we meet the needs of the service user
  • Describe the concept of protecting adults and safeguarding children. Learners will also explore what to do and who to talk to if they are concerned for the well-being of a person.
  • Identify the main responsibilities of workers and employers for health and safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Understand how to provide person-centered care for individuals suffering from dementia. You will develop an understanding of what the term ‘dementia’ means and what the common signs and symptoms of the condition are.
  • Laptops can be loaned for the duration of the course to support learners with their course work

Progression

Following on from the successful completion of the course, you will be able to apply for a range of jobs within Health and Social Care, an apprenticeship or further study at a higher level with the Level 2 Certificate in Health and care.
