Duration: 18 hours


Summary

This course is for parents/carers who have completed the ‘Step Ahead in English’ course and who want to continue their learning and gain a Functional Skills qualification in English.


Outcomes

  • Improve your English language skills
  • Feel more confident with everyday tasks involving English
  • Gain a functional skills qualification at an appropriate level covering three central themes: ‘reading’, ‘writing’ and ‘speaking and listening’
  • This course runs over a period of 12 or 18 hours

Progression

You may like to continue your learning and join a ‘Step Ahead in Maths’ course to look at strategies taught in schools to develop maths skills and to consider how to improve your own skills. Or, you may want to join an English or maths course in a community venue and progress through Functional Skills maths or English up to Level 2.

Entry requirements

  • You can join this course if you are a parent, carer or grandparent aged 16 or over who does not already hold a Level 2 qualification in English (i.e. GCSE grade A-C, CSE grade 1), and have completed the ‘Step Ahead in English’ course
